Still here - still packing - the sequel !!

Up early today to take my son to do overtime - done ironing, done online banking - reward is cup of tea and a blog at 7.40am - then packing........................................

We had a letter from the solicitor on Thursday with queries from our buyers solicitors- that took me all Thursday evening to sort out. When we moved in there was a conservatory on the side of the house over the kitchen door (described by us in the agents details as a garden as it is not grand like some conservatories are now) This was of brick construction with mouldy, green windows on top and an old plastic roof. The 'egg lady' who used to come told me that her Mum had lived opposite us from the bungalows being built in 1963 and the addition was made a few months after the bungalow was completed. We didnt need planning in 1996 when we changed the wood for upvc and added a new roof. The sol's are now querying why a 'garden room' is in the agents details when it is not on the deeds. The thing is it didnt need planning in 1963 so the deeds wouldn't have been changed and why didn't our sol's query this in 1995 when we bought the house?? Anyway the neighbours who bought the egg lady's mums house have said they will verify it has been there since they moved in 29 years ago! We also have the agents picture when we bought in 1995 and it shows it clearly on there.

We then discover that we will have to take an indemnity policy out for our buyers in case the vicar ever decides to come and claim money from them as noted in the deeds. This is I believe £58 and covers them for 25 years. When we moved to our previous house in 1990 there were no probs then when we left it in 95 to come here all of a sudden it was discovered that the previous owner didnt have planning for his garage and wayleave. So we had to pay for retrospective planning for it. Now why wasnt that spotted when we bought? There is no consistency in this is there.

When we filled in the form about the property it also asks if there has been any disputes about the boundaries - so as we had a solicitors letter from the neighbour who lives behind us but who's drive is at the side of ours we knew we had to mention it. As it had a land registry stamp on it we thought well they will see that there was an enquiry to the registry we had better be honest. Mrs C died about 3 years ago and the property was sold and no one ever came and queried the boundaries.

These are all things that hold up the process - I asked a lady down the road who moved in recently and their seller had to pay the indemnity policy of £58 to ward off the vicar!! She also had to pay £75 for another policy because the council had no record of planning for her conservatory even though it wouldnt have needed it in case they decided at a later that the may query its existence!

So, we are no further on at the moment ! Alan is up now - so we had better get started

My goodness, moving is such a minefield isn't it? We have been lucky with our two moves, our first property was brand new so no problem there and on buying our present home the chain went well. I do hope you can get all these infuriating problems ironed out soon and finally get on the move. Yesterday I found a really good quote in a little book of 'stress' which I have posted on my blog, it goes (home is where the heartache is - move home - twice a year - every year!) x

Ugh! There's always something isn't there? We also had to take out one of those policies when we sold our last house as it had been extended some years before, had planning permission etc but we didn't have a copy of the final "signing off" by the council. When we bought the house 3 years previously no mention was made of this by our solicitors.

When I enquired why he told me that since about 2000 new rules & regs had come in which meant you had to have paperwork for extensions which you didn't previously, so had to insure against any future action by the council - for instance telling you to take the extension down! The only ones smiling are the insurance companies!

I don't envy you one little bit! I've experienced those indemnity policies and stupid planning rules in the past too. Hang on in there!

Bugger....eh!
Katie is fine, feels the baby moving now.
She had her meeting.......
nothing really resovled, they all had to accept it that they have done the hours and forget it!
But now, everybody has to do one on call, even the part timers and this means a 3 full timers of the 10 to not carry more of burden.
Kate is probably not going to do any soon anyway, it is not good practise in her condition.
Good luck with it all!

Hi Catherine, it has been some years since we last moved and to be honest I can see us staying here forever as moving these days seems such a hassle. Good luck with it though, all the hassles will be a distance memory once you're settled in! Clare x

G'day from Australia,

Came here from Mrs Nesbitt's blog. Nothing better than an early-morning cup of tea and a quick blog session.

My routine on weekends ....

Oh, my! You are having a time of it, aren't you?

We had a neighbor like that. For 20+ years we had her. She kept to herself most of the time, but raised a ruckus when we built a fence. Apparently, we were putting it on her property. No, Mrs. Shannon. It's about two feet onto our property. She insisted we get a surveyor who agreed with us. Then she said, of course he'd agree with us. We hired him! Even with things like that, who do you think rode in the ambulance with her to the emergency room when we couldn't find her daughter? Who went over every time she called and paid her bills for her? Who listened when she needed someone to talk to because all her friends had deserted her? She's gone now, God bless her. I did well with the things her rarely seen daughter threw out on the street before selling the house.

I tried emailing you, but it came back. That usually happens with these Blogger emails, so I'm answering your email here.

Of course you can use the email thing! It was just an email that's been making the circuits.

I've been so lucky with menopause. Very few hot flashes, no night sweats, just an occasional night of hot flashes which aren't quite "sweats". My mood is more even that it ever was - except for Monday - and I have more energy than I've ever had in my life! I have occasional heart palpitations and The Left Breast Syndrome. It's the larger, denser breast and aches just about all the time. No libido, much to my husband's dismay. I do get the sleepies a lot, but I'm not sure if that's hormonal or allergies or what. I realize that every menopause symptom in the book could hit tomorrow and am thankful for every easy day I have. This has been going on for three or four years now. Have you been to http://www.menopausematters.co.uk/ ? It's the best one I found when I was worried about myself. LOL If you haven't, check out their archives, too.

oh, dear, what a nuisance. We bought our house with a conservatory built by the previous tenants which didn't have to have planning permission at the time so must check this out. What a minefield :(

Couple one still desperately want our house but can't get a buyer for theirs, they ring the agents every week to see if we've had any offers - I don't think they need to worry as the way things are at the moment with the housing market I've a feeling we'll still be waiting for them.

Keeping my fingers crossed that all goes well for you.
